The Garzón School: architecture and sustainability by Enkel

The Garzón School is a pioneering educational campus in Maldonado, Uruguay, that combines an innovative pedagogical approach with sustainable construction based on the Mass Timber system. The architectural design was developed by Rosan Bosch Studio, a renowned international studio specializing in flexible, playful educational environments that are in harmony with nature.

The project was carried out entirely by Enkel, which developed it on a turnkey basis, covering all stages: engineering, prefabrication, structural assembly, and final construction details. This collaboration made it possible to align the pedagogical vision of the design with an efficient construction solution that is environmentally friendly and of high technical quality.

With a surface area of 2,023 m², the school is located at the intersection of the R104 and R9 roads in Maldonado, perfectly integrated into its natural surroundings to enhance an educational experience that transcends the classroom and traditional educational approaches.

The structure was built using 72 m³ of GLT (glued laminated timber) and 112 m³ of CLT (cross-laminated timber). Thanks to the prefabrication and industrialized process that distinguishes Enkel, the structural assembly was completed in just one month, and the total execution time was nine months, demonstrating the effectiveness of the model implemented by the Uruguayan developer.

The Garzón School reaffirms Enkel’s commitment to the development of spaces that integrate innovation, sustainability, and quality, joining other landmark educational projects such as Moorlands and Imagine Educational Center, which consolidate its leadership in the construction of infrastructures that transform the way people learn, live, and experience such important stages in their lives as the first three stages of learning (early childhood education, primary school, and high school).
